From Gethsemane To Golgotha
(Matthew 26:31 - 28:10)

The lord was in the garden kneeling down to pray
Sweat formed on his body there was blood upon his face
Overwhelmed with sorrow he’d been put to the test
His disciples close at hand, were weak within their rest

His sentries they were sleeping like mankind had for years
In his greatest time of need no one wiped his tears
The Lord in all his sorrow finished his last prayer
He said to them,
“Rise, let us go, here comes my betrayer.”

Judas led a crowd sent by the chief high priests
He stood before the Son of God and kissed him on the cheek
The taste of his betrayal still warm upon his face
As the crowd led Jesus back to town in humility and disgrace

The sight of this transgression had the disciples terrified
One by one they deserted him, fleeing from his side
All except for peter who followed from afar
waiting for the outcome outside with the high priest’s guard

Looking for a reason to put the Lord to death
Even with false witnesses there was no evidence
They charged him under oath claiming by the living god
To answer if he was the Christ; was he the Son of God

The Son of God

Jesus looked upon them and claimed his rightful thrown
They would have fell down on their knees if they’d only known
Instead they called his gospel a crime of blasphemy
Mounting crimes and punishments against him falsely

Peter denied Jesus three times on that morn’
He was lead to Pontius Pilate battered beat and torn

“Are you the king they speak of, The King of the Jews?
I see no crime committed here, of what are you accused.”

Jesus stated publicly much to the crowd’s surprise
“Yes, it is as you say,”
and then he closed his eyes
Jesus or Barabas were offered to the crowd
Barabas was the name they called under a mounting cloud

Judas took his final breath hanging from a tree
At his own hand he took his life and gave up eternity
Thirty silver coins was the only cost
For our Lord and Savior to be led up to the cross

They placed a scarlet robe upon his blood stained skin
Put a staff in his right hand and mocked him once again
They beat him and they spat upon him he was nearly dead
A twisted crown of gathered thorns was forced upon his head

Hail king of the Jews

All along the road the people watched the scene
The torture of an innocent, not knowing what it’d mean
They placed him on the cross; they nailed his hands and feet
A sign was placed above his head, it read,
“Jesus is the King.”

Hanging there beside him were two convicted thieves
One called out to Jesus, he said that he believed

“Remember me my Lord when you come to your kingdom.”

Jesus said
“You’ll walk with me in paradise my son.”

A cloud had formed above him darkening the sky
It would not long until the Son of man would die
Love for man in his eyes he looked down in agony
He said,
“My God, my God, why, have you forsaken me?”

He looked into the heavens with adoring eyes
Giving up his spirit to God, as they heard his cries
The earth shook and the rock split; the temple curtain torn
He fulfilled the prophesy made when he was born

From Gethsemane to Golgotha the Bible does record
The last few days in the life of our saving Lord
Even in his torment, pain and their distrust
He looked down upon them and willingly died for us

Jesus Christ the Lord
